Problem solving is an essential skill, at every grade level, and should be practiced throughout the school year, not as an isolated unit. With this in mind, I created this set of 10 word problems in a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Each of the problems is based on St. Patrick’s Day facts or real-world scenarios, and requires students to do multiple steps to solve the problem.
Skill focus: operations with decimals & whole numbers, changing fractions to percent, calculating percent increase/decrease
These task cards would be ideal for small group centres, where students can collaborate to answer the questions. Sweeten things up with a small bowl of green jelly beans while students work!
