Description
With almost 200 total slides, this Google slide deck is ready to go to help you teach your class how to use the standard algorithm for multiplication AND how to use long division to solve equations.
In addition, the last two lessons help students to think about how to approach and solve multi-step word problems.
These slides were designed for use with 5th grade students who already have at least one strategy to solve multiplication and division equations, such as partial products, the array method, and the "magic 7" method.
There are 6 total lessons included in this slide deck:
Lesson 1: A comprehension overview of the standard algorithm for multiplication for a 2 digit x 2 digit equation. This lesson connects what students already know about partial products to this new multiplication strategy. The lesson goes step by step to introduce students to the standard algorithm, and includes practice problems. (Slides 2-25)
Lesson 2: A step by step overview of how to use the standard algorithm for 2 digit x 3 digit equations. Contains two warm up problems. (Slides 26-52)
Lesson 3: A step by step introduction to long division with a 3 digit dividend and a 1 digit divisor. There are three examples that are solved one step at a time, with each step explained on each slide. There are also additional problems to practice together. (Slides 53-98)
Lesson 4: A step by step overview of how to use long division to solve equations with a two digit divisor. There are four in-depth example equations. Contains three warm up problems. (Slides 99-151)
Lesson 5: An overview of long division when there is a remainder, as well as an introduction to multi-step word problems. Contains four warm up problems. (Slides 152-166)
Lesson 6: Guided practice in multi-step word problems. Can be used with gradual release of responsibility model. Contains 10 practice word problems and two warm up problems. (Slides 167-182)
Lessons can be used in one 60-minute class period, or can be spread out over two or more classes.
ALL slides are completely editable for your needs in your classroom and with your students!
