Standards Based Student Tracking Game Board - Grade 5 Math
Share

Description

Putting the power of tracking into the hands of your students is a researched based strategy (Marzano, 2001) to improve the achievement of your students. I have purchased tracking binders in my classroom to help my students understand their progress, but I have found these difficult to implement.

In this version, the standards for fifth grade math are written in student friendly language. Because the standards often include numerous skill sets to master them, the game board also breaks apart these skills into individual achievements allowing struggling students to feel that they are able to accomplish some of the tasks in a given unit of study.

Based on the 5 different set of standard areas, each game board comes in three versions (plain, black and white, and color) . Simply print the version you want for each student and have them store it in their binder. Because the goal is that students master the standards by the end of the year, the game board stays in their binder for the whole year, allowing them track their progress even after a given unit has passed. As students master skill sets and standards, they color in the corresponding square. Collect finished game boards and rewards student success.

These are tested and work, motivating learners who may not receive a passing score on a unit assessment, but can prove to themselves with evidence that they know some of the material. Let's instill grit and a growth mindset in our students.
