Description
Five different options to sort dot plots, histograms, and box plots.
Option 1: No headers. Students sort cards based on how categories
that they invent. This is great for the beginning of a unit on statistics
leading to a discussion to names of the shapes of distributions.
Option 2: Give the students the headers Skewed and Symmetric.
Students sort the cards into these categories. State that some cards
may not fit in either category. A good discussion point: in real life,
data is not always perfectly symmetric but we still classify it an
symmetric because it is close.
Option 3: Give the students the headers Skewed Right, Skewed Left,
Bell-shaped, Uniform, and Bimodal. Students sort the cards into
these categories.
Option 4: Give the students the headers Mean, Median, and Mode.
Students sort the cards based on the best measure of center to use.
Option 5: Give the students the headers interquartile Range and
Standard Deviation. Students sort the cards based on the best
measure of variability to use.
