Description
Statistics and Probability unit for grade 8 includes: interactive notebook pages, enter/exit tickets, task cards, activities, worksheets and assessments to teach the following 8th grade math standards:
8.SP.1 - Scatter plots
8.SP.2 - Trend lines
8.SP.3 - Interpreting linear models
8.SP.4 - Two-way tables and Relative-frequency tables
Use the interactive notebook pages as inspiration for how to organize your class's INB. Notes are included with each INB page to give tips and tricks for using them in your classroom.
Activities include taking a survey to create a scatter plot and a set of task cards. The two-way table task cards are also available individually in my store.
Enter/Exit tickets utilize the new vocabulary and concepts of the unit.
The skill sheets are additional practice I provide my students whether it is in math center work so I can monitor them or homework to assess their progress with the material.
Pre- and Post-assessments are included with answer keys. Questions are itemized so you know what standard you are testing if you do standards-based grading at your school.

This resource had everything I needed to teach this unit. It covers the material well and kept the students engaged.
My students liked the direct method of these examples and were able to see the patterns in the information easily.
I appreciated all of the activities, notes, exit/tickets, and assessments included in this resource. I have never been successful at using exit/entrance tickets, but having the ones within this resource allowed me to use another formative assessment to guide instruction. The shoe activity was helpful in understanding how to create a graph with labels and then plot the points in a scatterplot. The two-way table activity was also something that the students and I enjoyed. Thank you for sharing this resource. I'm hopeful that next year I will be able to use more of the interactive notebook.

CCSS8.SP.A.1
Construct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement data to investigate patterns of association between two quantities. Describe patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, linear association, and nonlinear association.
CCSS8.SP.A.2
Know that straight lines are widely used to model relationships between two quantitative variables. For scatter plots that suggest a linear association, informally fit a straight line, and informally assess the model fit by judging the closeness of the data points to the line.
CCSS8.SP.A.3
Use the equation of a linear model to solve problems in the context of bivariate measurement data, interpreting the slope and intercept. For example, in a linear model for a biology experiment, interpret a slope of 1.5 cm/hr as meaning that an additional hour of sunlight each day is associated with an additional 1.5 cm in mature plant height.
