Getting students to remember whether to add or subtract on story problems takes time. Then, once they get it, they forget it soon after the unit is finished. Take 2 minutes out of each day to practice one themed addition/subtraction story problem to keep it in the front of your student's mind. You can also put these around the room and have students (alone or with a partner) move card to card in 1 minute/30 second rotations to play a scoot game. All story problems are addition or subtraction. They increase in difficulty each month through the year.
Each month includes 19 task cards, a cover (in case you are keeping them organized on a key ring), and a scoot record sheet (in case you would like to do all the cards at once).
