STEM Tower Power

An Engineering Exploration of Structures and Gravity

This is a STEM activity in which students apply their knowledge of geometry, structures, and gravity to solve a creative engineering problem.

Teachers are saying:

"This was a great resource. The students enjoyed using it."

"They thought this was so much fun! Fit very well with our science lessons on gravity"

Students are challenged to design a prototype of a tower. Using easily available materials, students in grades 3-6 will be guided through the engineering design process while working in collaborative teams.

Teachers are provided with a complete packet that includes student worksheets, teacher notes, a rubric for assessment and a design brief poster. Collaborative team skills of problem solving, planning, perseverance, patience and presentation are stressed.

A fun activity that is easily integrated into the science and math curriculum.

great opportunity for team problem solving with tons of time for exploration. I supplement with you tube videos to review motion, force etc - I have all of the lessons and use them with a variety of classes - grade 4-7 - a favourite of the boys!
