Description
As a middle school teacher, I used to dread taking days off. After continuously getting reports of bad/disrespectful behavior from substitutes, I knew I had to do something. I came up with a letter writing assignment. Students reflect on the previous day(s) by writing letters to the substitute, their parents/guardians, and my building principal. Once a class has to complete this assignment, the next time you are out, you won't have to worry!
The letters teach accountability because it's assigned to the entire class (unless theres only one or two specific issues). My students not only had to reflect on the behavior, they also sharpen their writing skills.

Really Great!
This was great to get my students to reflect! I have only had to use it once...
Great resource
Met expectations
Great value
I was gone for a week. This was great when I came back to a less than positive report.
After receiving multiple negative subs notes, I had my students complete this activity while we discussed expectations and the consequences of their behavior.
Great starting point for my students to write an apology letter to a substitute.
This was a great way for students to reflect on behavior whenn we go bad reports from the sub.
When my students misbehaved when I had a substitute teacher, they did this.
I needed something meaningful for my students to do after they behaved extremely poorly for a substitute. I loved that it had students consider all of the parties involved that they were disrespectful to, and I liked that it held them accountable. I tweaked it to match what I needed, and I actually enjoyed reading their letters.
