This lesson on teaching substitution was absolutely fantastic! My students really grasped the concept of substitution in algebra thanks to the creative use of icons. The visual aspect helped them better understand how numbers replace variables, making the abstract concept much easier to follow. The icons served as a great teaching tool, allowing students to recognize the substitution process step-by-step. The lesson was structured well and kept my students engaged from start to finish. They were able to practice substitution in a variety of ways, which helped solidify their understanding. I loved how the lesson made a potentially tricky topic feel fun and approachable. This is a must-try lesson for anyone teaching algebraic substitution! It’s clear, effective, and a great resource for helping students build a solid foundation in algebra. Highly recommend!

My students LOVED doing this as an intro to the unit. It was engaging, they loved the challenge, and seeing how it related to expressions and equations once we started into the full unit.
