Description

This is a version of the game Spot it! or Dobble. There will be exactly one match between any two cards. Perfect for a 1st or 2nd grade math center or early finisher activity! What a fun way to practice addition fluency. This edition is based on sums from 2-32. All addends greater than 10 are doubles, addend plus a multiple of 10, or addend plus 1.

Many Spot it! or Dobble games use word art, different font, colors, and rotations to be visually interesting. In this game all words numbers and pictures are the same size, same simple font, and same orientation. This helps young learners focus on the numbers they are trying to master rather than be confused by different fonts facing different directions.

Instructions (3 - 4 players)

  1. Shuffle the deck. Place one card face up in the center of the table. Deal the rest to all players face down.
  2. Each player flips their top card face up. Try to spot a matching number.
  3. When a player spots a match, they call out the matching number and place their card on top of the center card.
  4. Play continues with the new center card until a player runs out of cards.
  5. The first player to run out of cards wins.

Instructions (2 player)

  1. Shuffle the deck. Place all cards face down in the center.
  2. Flip the top two cards.
  3. Everyone looks for a matching number. When a player spots a match, they call out the matching number and collect both cards.
  4. Flip the next two cards over and continue play until all cards have been collected.
  5. The player with the most cards wins.

Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
