Description

Master this tricky skill with 16 half-page (digital and printable) informational text task cards with three prompts on each card to help your students practice summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting nonfiction texts! Have your students complete all three prompts to learn and easily see the difference between the three concepts, or have them complete only one or two, depending on your current unit.

Teaching the difference between summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting can feel surprisingly tricky — especially when students blur the lines between all three. I designed this resource to make it crystal clear.

With 16 high-interest informational text task cards (print, digital, and full page writing options included), students read one nonfiction passage and respond to three targeted prompts:

Summarize the text
Paraphrase a specific section
Quote directly from the passage

Great value
I love that we are practicing so many different skills with this one activity. We are reading, summarizing, paraphrasing, and practicing using quotes. I've used these small group and they worked so well. I really appreciate the amount of practice in one card. The only thing I don't like is the size of the text for the story. I have a few struggling readers and that makes it a little harder for them, but other than that this is a great activity.
