Description

Turn your students into math detectives with this highly engaging Summer Math Mystery! In this fun, story-based activity, students solve math challenges to eliminate suspects and discover who took the missing Golden Pool Trophy before the Summer Spectacular.

Perfect for Summer themed centers, summer school, morning work, small groups, or a end of the year review activity that is still standards based, this resource combines problem solving, number sense, and storytelling to keep students motivated while they practice essential second-grade math skills.

You will receive:

*Story Intro/Directions Page

*Detective Crown to color and increase engagement

*5 Math Challenge Pages

*Answer Keys

*Suspect List with Answer Key

*Math Mat with double ten frame and number line (place in plastic sleeve to use with manipulatives or dry erase markers).

*Congratulations You Solved the Mystery Certificate/Coloring Page

Math Skills Covered:

*3 Digit Number Sense and Place Value

*3 Digit Addition with Regrouping

*Subtraction within 20

*Missing addends within 20

Students use their answers to identify a new suspect found innocent on each page. (The answer with the greatest value from each challenge matches an ID Number for one suspect...cross that suspect off the suspect list after each challenge).

You can extend this activity across a full week by completing one challenge a day, and finding out who did it on Friday, OR complete for one fun filled afternoon of math!

Pair this activity with our highly engaging  Shark City Social Studies Bundle where students elect a new mayor in town, become a business owner by creating their own products and store fronts to sell to their peers, and write new laws to solve community problems!
