Description

Do your students need more practice with MULTIPLICATION problems? This SHELLS MATH CENTER can be used as a "write the room" activity, a small group activity or a whole class activity as the task cards are shown on a document camera. No matter how you choose to use this resource, it is a fun way to practice MULTIPLICATION (facts to 12). It goes great with SUMMER, BEACH, OCEAN or themes for anytime of the school year!

This resource includes five pages of cards in color with a total of 30 cards. The numbered cards have images of SHELLS and a multiplication problem. The problems include facts to 12. Take a look at the PREVIEW to see most of the cards.

Teachers should copy the cards on cardstock (for durability and saving for future years) or plain paper, laminate (if desired), cut apart, and then decide how to use them. There are multiple uses for these cards. Here are some ideas. They can be used as a "write the room" activity and post the cards around the room for students to find and write the correct answer. They can also be used in a stationary math center or pocket chart if you don't want students walking around the room. You may also choose to use them in a small group or as a whole class activity while showing the cards using a document camera and Promethean Board.

Depending on how many cards you want to use, you can post/use numbered cards 1-15, 16-30 or both.

There are two recording sheets. One is for cards 1-15 and one is for cards 16-30.

Students can complete one or both recording sheets when they are in their center.

If used as a "write the room" activity, students will roam the room to find the numbered cards. After finding a card, students will write the answer to the multiplication problem on the recording sheet. Example: Card number one has 8 x 6=, so students will write the number (numeral) 48 on their recording sheet in the number one box because that is the answer to the multiplication problem.

Answer keys are provided for both sets of recording sheets either as a self-check for students or for the teacher to have an answer key to quickly check papers.

***These task cards can also be used as FLASHCARDS for practicing multiplication facts. The teacher could write the answers on the back of each card for a self-checking activity if using for flashcards.

***There are 9 total pages including two pages of answer keys: 5 card pages, 2 recording sheets, and 2 answer keys to the recording sheets.

The PREVIEW shows every page included.

This activity is great for a math center.

Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
