Focus: * Identifying recognizing and naming letters * Matching uppercase letters
This product is perfect for your summer theme. Students gain lots of interactive practice discriminating between letters. This helps build letter recognition and visual discrepancy. Letters with similar qualities were specifically chosen to encourage students to analyze each letters unique construction.
This product contains two different activities. One is an interactive slide presentation and the second is worksheets for centers, morning work or assessments.
These slides are great for explicit instruction, a warm-up, or as a review in your morning meeting.
Students love searching for the treasure while practicing identifying letter recognition. It’s a fun engaging way to build letter recognition and fluency.
Present the slides in presentation mode to use the interactive component.
How to use:
- These slides can be used as interactive slides. If you have an interactive screen, students can tap their choice and the presentation will progress to the appropriate slide.
- If you do not have an interactive screen, students can point to or circle their choice with a dry erase marker. The teacher can then use a mouse to click the image and the presentation will progress to the appropriate slide.
- Students match the starfish to the letter on the pail. Students tap the starfish with the letter they think matches. If they match correctly the slide will progress to a treasure chest. Click the “Woo Hoo!” text box to progress to the next slide. If they matched incorrectly, the slide will progress to a lobster. Click the “Try Again.” text box to progress to the next slide.
- When students have matched all the letters, click the pail to progress to the next letter.
- Draw students attention to the formation of each letter - how many lines, straight lines, curved lines etc. Have students air write or trace the letter on their desk.
- You can work on one letter at a time or complete a few letters each day.
Worksheets
How to use:
- I like to use these worksheets in a variety of ways. When working on a specific letter, I will print the worksheet that goes with it, place in a sheet protector and provide bingo chips or another manipulative.When we finish going over the slide, student can place their bingo chip over the letters that match. This helps keep students engaged and with a quick glance I can see who has mastered the skill and who needs extra support.
- Morning work or seatwork - students color the letters that match
- Centers - provide bingo daubers - students dab the letters that match
- Assessment - using manipulatives like bingo chips or counting bears, students cover the matching letters
