Superposition and Wave Interference Activity
Share

Description

Hands-on activity where students have different wave shapes and move them across a grid to see how the waves interfere with each other. The activity contains multiple shapes including:

  • Square
  • Rectangle
  • Right triangle
  • Isosceles triangle
  • Waves
  • Double triangle
  • Square and rectangle connected

This activity works great for students who have a difficult time with the visual-spacial aspect of wave superposition and interference. Includes answer key and extra pages for student or teacher designed problems.

The grid and shapes can be printed on paper or transparencies.

Supports AP Physics 1 standards.

I was intrigued by the resource thinking it would be a hands on activity to help my students create resultant waves from interference. The assignment came with a sheet containing waves of different shape and size and graphs to draw on. However, I found the instructions not helpful at all. I asked the oqwner if there was an answer key thinking I could figure out what to do with the "waves" if I knew what the resulot was supposed to be but the reply was "No." I tried playing around with the materials myself and couldn't figure a way to use it. I ended up teaching superposition without the handson materials so i was disappointed.
