Syllable counting is a foundational component to phonemic awareness. Use this Standards Based resource to enhance your students early literacy and phonemic awareness. Enhancing listening skills and segmenting words are a necessary part of a child's phonological awareness.
- Print, cut and laminate each card so students can flip through them easily. Have the children clap out the syllables, stomp the syllables, or count with fingers as they say each word out loud.
- Use the included 5 and 10 frames to further enhance a child's visual discrimination related to the number of syllables in a word.
Use the Roll and Cover Number mats for related math centers.
Use the ABC Write the Room bundle to further develop an understanding of language and the printed word.
