Hearing syllables in words is an important foundational skill, critical for reading success.

This product is actually two products in one. With a single deck, two games can be played that reinforce the concept of syllables.

First, there are 50 playing cards that come in two sets; color and black & white. Choose your set! The cards come with backs so you can print two-sided so that the kids can see through the cards. Laminate and cut! Cards contain pictures/words with up to 5 syllables.

I also have directions for each game in both color and black and white.

The first game is Memory with a twist. Instead of pairing up pictures or words that are the same, players must match the same number of syllables. The player with the most matches wins when all the cards are gone. This can be played with 2-4 players.

The second game is Two Card Showdown. This game is meant for 2 players as they need to split the 50 cards evenly. Once the cards have been dealt, players make a pile with their cards face down. Players flip over their top cards at the same time. The player whose card contains the word with more syllables wins and gets the pair. You could also make it the reverse by deciding the card with the least amount of syllables wins. Either way, the player with the most pairs wins when all the cards are gone.

These would be great for a literacy center. You can use the black and white set to send home for extra practice.

For storage, you could use a plastic gallon bag or a mailing envelope.
