Learning Goal: Students will be able to discuss why it is important to use tables and graphs to organize and visualize data. Students will be able to use and make tables and graphs to evaluate (interpret and analyze) data.

• Students work directly in a fillable slide to complete the lesson.

NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS

This resource introduces essential science and engineering practices to students in elementary school. These practices are essential to the three-dimensional design and implementation of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). NGSS guides a robust science education that introduces higher-order thinking skills to learners in the very first years of their education. Introducing these skills in primary grades is necessary to develop young students into strong, proficient and competent scientific thinkers and problem-solvers.


IMMERSIVE READER

This resource includes a version of the reading passage that can be read to a student with Immersive Reader. This read-only word document is accessed in a web browser. Immersive reader is a FREE Microsoft educational tool. You do not need a Microsoft account to access this tool in a web browser. Learn more about Immersive Reader HERE.

Immersive Reader can:

• Read the entire passage to a student

• Help pronounce individual words in a passage as a student reads

• Translate the entire passage or individual words in the passage for ESL students

• Change the font, text color and background color for students with visual impairments

MOTIVATION

The First Look with Junior Scientist Jack Elkowitz Series is inspired by my son Jack and his desire to learn how to learn about the universe. The series was created after homeschooling him during the Coronavirus pandemic.
