Playing with tangrams is a great way to learn about polygons and how to compose 2D shapes. They can help students to develop spatial awareness, problem solving skills and fine motor skills. You can use them to introduce or reinforce geometric concepts such as congruence, similarity, symmetry and transformations (slide, turn, flip). They can also be used to challenge students’ creativity by having them create their own original minimalist designs.

There are four ways to replicate the puzzles for easy differentiation:

• Worksheets: Solution & Silhouette
  The tans (4 inch puzzle pieces) are the same size as the shapes on the worksheets.
  Students can cover the tangram figures on the worksheets with the tans.
• Task Cards: Solution & Silhouette
  The shapes on the task cards are smaller than the tans.
  The intention is to replicate the tangram figure next to the game card.

• Indoor recess on a rainy day
