Target the NAPLAN numeracy concept, rate/ratio/percent/proportion, using this set of comprehensive practice questions (30 questions with answers). This activity is designed for students in Year 7, but is also suitable for students in Years 8 and 9. These questions are ideal for teaching students to solve word problems and need not be restricted to NAPLAN preparation.

To enhance engagement and individualise student learning, each question is accompanied by a QR code (quick response code) which provides direct access to answers and explanations. Alternatively, a full set of printable answers has been included.

Suggested Use 1:

Print and laminate one or two sets of the rate/ratio/percent/proportion questions.

Cut to separate individual questions.

Print a class set of Record of Completion forms and answer sheets if necessary.

Allow students to attempt questions at their own pace. They can also be responsible for checking answers using the QR Codes or answer sheet.

Suggested Use 2:

Teacher projects questions onto the white board.

Use the ‘Think, Pair, Share’ approach to solve individual questions: student solves question independently; student discusses working and answers with a neighbour; students share solutions with the class. Students then attempt the next question.
