Description
I developed this assignment in order to teach students how to develop their paragraph by adding a concrete example in their body paragraphs. The idea is that they take a story that they just read and use it as an example to complete a body paragraph. This worksheet has already brainstormed the topic for them so that they do not get caught up the introduction or any other part of the essay. This simply focuses on the thesis then, a body paragraph which is enough for a 55-minute class with a 15-minute lesson.
The sample one can be done with the first chapter of the House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros which goes with the given topic, but I have included the word document so that you can change the reading, the prompt and the brainstorm for whatever reading you are doing!
