Tech-Exploratorium - Build a Website: Project Based Learning (Computer Literacy)
Share

Description

The following are the Learning Objectives for this assessment:

1. Obtaining genuine knowledge (i.e. terminology, trends) of emerging technologies

2. Learning fundamental principles in the field of educational technology

3. Gaining skills in working with others in a group

4. Developing creative capacities (research, writing, designing, etc.)

5. Developing skills in public speaking and in writing

6. Learning how to research and use web-based resources for answering questions

Directions:

Create a web-based learning experience for viewers. The experience will include one emerging technology theme that is accomplished by interacting with five technology-rich learning activities. You will create a website that focuses on one emerging technology theme and offers five activities to teach that theme. The framework for the project is the idea that you are creating an exploratorium based on that one theme (think of the activities you see at the Liberty Science Center).

Each activity will be presented as both visual and written descriptions. You may choose to build your website via Google Sites or any other website builder. The focus will be on the research, learning, and web design processes and gaining whatever technical skills are required to implement the designs.

Your final product will be a website focusing on one topic with five technology-rich activities to support it. For example, you might focus on virtual reality and then include five activities for users to understand its implications in various occupations, along with its issues. The activities would be technology-rich online activities (simulations, games, interactive videos, etc.). The idea is to create a website on one subject with viewers gaining knowledge about the topic in an engaging way.

I used this as a guide to creating my own assignment. The rubric was so helpful in getting a website-building activity for my kids.
