Telling Time Using the Hour Hand
Share

Description

Do your students frequently tell you it's 8:57 when the clock actually reads 7:57? This lesson will help! When my fourth and fifth graders frequently read an analog clock wrong any time it displayed a time in the second half of an hour, I developed this method to help them tell time accurately and confidently. This bundle includes a 13-page interactive flipchart used to teach the method. The 5-page .pdf file includes a student sheet that allows them to practice matching the hour hand's position with possible times, a student sheet of clocks to assess whether they've mastered the method, keys for both student sheets, and a teacher notes page that gives a little more information on the method. The pack can be used in its entirety as a full class lesson, or the method and first worksheet can be used as a mini-lesson for students who need it.

I used this lesson to prepare students for a PBL Unit on Planning Santa's Route in December. Please let me know if you would be interested in that unit! If you're interested in the method, but don't have access to ActivInspire, please contact me and I can provide a similar presentation in another format!
