Description

Transform mathematical concepts into meaningful art. For my 8th grade class, we partnered with a local non-profit organization to create a tessellation that would be hung at their central office to spread hope to victims of domestic abuse. The tessellation was displayed in their office where victims attend support groups. We chose to tessellate leave to represent change and growth, in the shape of a heart, to express love and empathy. This project was totally student-led! I just introduced the idea, they chose what they wanted to tessellate and had total creative control.

This project could be altered in many ways. Perhaps you don't want to partner with a local non-profit. There are different ways to spread messages of hope through tessellations, which is why this product is free. I hope that you are able to find some way to help and give back to those in need through this project idea!
