Description

Text formatting is a great way to help students master word processing. Learning keyboarding can be super boring and tedious for students. These sets of formatting activities aim to bring engagement and a sense of purpose to the practice of typing. This is a bundle of all of my text formatting sets.

Each design has 2 sets of directions pages. The first one is lowercase letters and the second one is uppercase letters. This is to give you choice to match your student keyboards. When the students actually type the text, it should all be in lowercase to match the finished examples provided. There is one Advanced set that uses numbers and special keys as an extra challenge.

Ways to add challenge:

•Have students highlight the text with the color instead of changing the font color.

•Have students add a line at the end that says what the shape is.

•Have students add a clip art image that represents the design.

•Have students type a reflection about how the activity went and what they might do differently next time.

Ways to provide supports (make it easier):

•Provide students with a second sheet of paper or a flat edge like a ruler so that they can be looking at one line at a time.

•Dictate the directions one line at a time to students.

•Demonstrate each line as you go using a projector or screensharing software.

Great resource when teaching Word and Docs, and having a fun project for the students to do, to reenforce the skills they have learned.

I was looking for a fun activity to give students keyboard practice. When I discovered these text formatting activities, I knew this was exactly what I was looking for! I tried one myself and discovered how engaging they are and how it requires following precise instructions. I am looking forward to using these with students next school year!

I bought a smaller bundle to try with students before this, and this big bundle is absolutely worth it! They are engaged the whole time with figuring out the mystery shape and adding colors when they are done. I love having such a variety to switch things up. It makes great hallway decorations too!

This is a great resource for having students practice their typing skills and work on formatting at the same time. Students were motivated to finish and find out what their mystery picture would be each time.
