The activities in this bundle address both reading and writing standards.

First, students will review the five common text structures that authors use. Then they write their own paragraphs demonstrating their understanding of the different structures.

Scaffolded with signal words, these higher-ordered thinking writing activities can be used independently, in small groups or with partners.

When students can identify structures, they deepen their reading comprehension.

Extend the activity: once the paragraphs are written and graded for accuracy, have each student create their own matching game by cutting their paragraphs away from the structure title. Let them pair up and see if their partner can correctly match the sets back together.

Each activity comes with:

• a one page matching review activity about salad; students identify which structures are used (answer key provided).
• a two page assignment about a favorite food (like tacos or ice cream, etc); students write their own paragraphs using each structure...a higher-ordered thinking activity for sure!
