Description
This is a fun way to introduce and reinforce the concept of histograms. The activity provided is twofold. Part One involves creating a histogram from the data given. The Part Two contains directions and blank templates to use in completing the Histogram Texting Activity with your own classroom.
To obtain data for Part Two, students used their cell phones, iPods, Kindles, or any device they normally use for texting. Using an excerpt from “The Perfect Swim”, students typed for exactly five minutes. . Total words per minute is then calculated . Using the classroom data and the table provided, students organize data, determine intervals and construct a histogram including a label for the x-axis, y-axis, and a title. Questions relating to the activity follow.
