Description
***50% off for the first 48 Hours***. Here’s a fun project based math activity that allows students to practice spending money in real life scenario! Students plan a Thanksgiving (or simply Fall) meal for 8 people with a budget of $75. They choose items from the Thanksgiving Foods Catalog (or the Fall Foods Catalog) to round out their menu! Not only does this allow student practice with money, but helps students to understand planning a balanced (though delicious and fun!) meal.
Students can work in small groups or independently to complete the project. You choose the Thanksgiving or Fall theme to best meet your students’ needs. Then, choose from one of three differentiated variations for menu planning:
- Version One: Just list the item and the price, totaling all items up at the end.
- Version Two: List items and the price AND round each price to the nearest dollar to complete an estimate before totaling each column.
- Version Three: List items, their quantity, price per item, and round each price to the nearest dollar to complete an estimate before totaling each column.
Here's what you'll get:
- 3 differentiated versions of the meal planning project with both Thanksgiving and Fall options
- Black & White version of Foods Catalog with both Thanksgiving and Fall options
- Full Color version of Foods Catalog with both Thanksgiving and Fall options
- Teaching notes
This is a project I have shared with my math students since I began teaching in 2005! Students love to be engaged and making real life choices involving money while thinking about the family and friends with whom they would share this fantasy meal!
This is a low-prep activity - Just print the student pages, then create your catalogs (one for each group of students working together is enough!) in either full color or black and white. You can laminate the catalog pages and bind them for future use or just print and staple the catalogs together for this year’s class! Related Products
