Description

This Thanksgiving Math activities worksheet pack is a great way for your middle school students to make real world connections to math. The skills students will practice as they look at the cost of Thanksgiving dinner include finding unit rates, calculating percentages, using fractions, and more. This resource can be used as a PBL project, packet of worksheets, enrichment, or as an engaging set of activities during a busy time of year!

Included in this product are the following Thanksgiving-related worksheets and activities described below:

  1. Math Behind Thanksgiving: Students will solve a variety of math problems to reveal a Thanksgiving fact.
  2. Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Comparison: Your students will look at the cost of items needed for dinner from the previous two years and calculate the percent of change. Then they will answer reflection questions based on their calculations.
  3. Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Last Year Vs. This Year: In this activity, your students will use local grocery store ads (paper or online) to find the cost of items commonly used for Thanksgiving dinner. They will then compare to last year's costs as well as answer reflection questions.
  4. Thanksgiving Dinner Through the Years: In this activity, students will look for data from the past 10 years. They will analyze and reflect on their data.
  5. Thanksgiving Dinner Word Problems: Students will solve different problems related to Thanksgiving dinner.
  6. Thanksgiving Recipe Increase or Decrease: Students will be given recipes to either double or divide in half. They will calculate the correct amount of ingredients needed.

There are so many possibilities for these activities to be incorporated into your classroom. You can use it with small groups or partners, make it a week-long lesson, and more! Best of all, there are so many great conversations to be had about how math is used in the real world!
