"I used this activity in my 7th and 8th grade intervention class to practice integer operations and plotting ordered pairs. This activity took 3 class periods. I liked that it practiced both skills. This activity was challenging, which is what my students need. "

Description

Practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers plus graphing ordered pairs with this fun activity before Thanksgiving break! It is sure to keep students engaged and doing math.

Students are given a variety of problems involving positive and negative numbers. Each solution creates an ordered pair that students graph on the coordinate plane to reveal an image of a plate and utensils. Students love mystery graphs!

Answers range between -20 and 20. A few result in decimals to keep students on their toes!

As an extension, students are challenged to add their favorite food to the graph, creating the integer operation problems that would create the drawing. This is great for early finishers!

This is a perfect activity for a Thanksgiving party (although it could be used any time of year)! It works well after a test, on a sub day, or just for fun. Coloring the graph is optional.

These finished graphs are great to display on the wall as classroom decoration!

Answer key is included.
