Description

Make number sense and expression writing more engaging with this fun turkey-themed math activity!

Students are given turkeys, each labeled with a target number. Their challenge is to write 11 different numerical expressions on each turkey that simplify to that target number — using a mix of operations and exponents. When completed, students will create a total of 66 unique expressions, building confidence and flexibility with numbers.

This resource includes two versions of the worksheet to discourage copying and keep all students thinking independently.

Easy Differentiation Options:

  • Assign partners one sheet to complete together, with each student responsible for three turkeys.
  • Have partners use different colored pencils, requiring each student to contribute at least five expressions per turkey.

Perfect for:
✔️ Math centers
✔️ Early finishers
✔️ Number sense practice
✔️ Thanksgiving fun
✔️ Reinforcing operations, exponents, and order of operations

Bring a little seasonal fun into your classroom while strengthening students’ expression-writing skills!
