Description
Perfect for Thanksgiving! This is an engaging activity in which students must complete four thought-provoking Thanksgiving math puzzles. There are two levels of problems included, each with a non-digital, semi-digital, and completely digital version for you to choose from. In the semi-digital and digital versions, students collect secret numbers which are given to them each time they submit a correct answer. You don't have to check any work so you are free to facilitate and help students! At the end, students submit their final combination into the Google Form to show they have completed the activity.
Both levels of questions have similar looking puzzles and the same secret number combination so you could even differentiate for students within your class while having them complete the same activity and they probably wouldn't even realize it!
More Challenging (MC): Grades 5-8
- Four puzzles with four fun Thanksgiving Facts
- Pattern solving puzzle
- Mayflower Sudoku (9x9 square)
- Pre-algebra Logic Table Puzzle (4 x 4 table)
- Area Model Logic Puzzle (multiplication)
Less Challenging (LC): Grades 2-4
- Four puzzles with four fun Thanksgiving Facts
- Pattern solving puzzle
- Turkey Sudoku (6 x 6 square)
- Pre-algebra Logic Table Puzzle (3 x 4 table)
- Addition Table Logic Puzzle (addition/subtraction)
- This activity is definitely for your more advanced 2nd graders for independent completion.
Three Options
Non-Digital Option- For this option, you can simply print out the puzzles for students and check them when complete!
Printable Semi-Digital Activity- For this option, students scan one QR code (or click one link) that brings them to a Google Form where they must enter the correct answer to progress forward in the activity and collect a secret number. You can send the document to students digitally or print it out ahead of time.
Google Sites Digital Activity with Printable student work page- For this option, students scan the QR code on their student work page that brings them to a Google Site that allows them to view the puzzles and progress through the activity one task at a time. Students submit their answers into a Google Form right on the page. If they get a correct answer they are given the direction of which picture to click in order to get to the next task, as well as a secret number. The first puzzle (the pattern problem) is revealed after students complete an embedded jigsaw puzzle on the page. If your students are able to access Google Sites, this is a fun digital option!
*If you plan on using the completely digital option be sure students are able to access Google Sites on their devices. Some districts block them, so you may want to check first! If your district does block them you could either submit the site to your technology department to see if they could make an exception, or you could have students complete the tasks first and then do the final reveal together using a teacher device and the Google Site (assuming the teacher would have access).
