Description

Nothing gets my students more excited about writing than a writing project. Your students will love creating the main character of their Thanksgiving narrative, and writing a story that includes rising action, and a character that finds acceptance among ALL the other "normal" turkeys on the farm.

The task:

It's nearing Thanksgiving and all the turkeys on the farm are unwittingly stuffing their faces and getting fat. The farmer couldn't be happier. But wait, there is hope. One turkey on the farm is not like all the others. While the others eat and peck away at the dirt, this turkey spends the day honing their skills related to their profession. Of course none of the other turkeys have professions, which is why this unique turkey is shunned by all the rest. Have no fear, all the hard work and dedication to their chosen profession will pay off.

Your students will:

- develop an intriguing narrative

- create a unique protagonist who solves a conflict using their unique character traits

- write and develop a plot that includes rising action and character development

We love enhancing our writing skills every year with this tried and true lesson plan on narrative writing.

This is a WEEK LONG writing unit that includes:

- art

- writing

- character analysis

- plot development (rising action, falling action, conflict, resolution)

Yay - I am so glad! I was just going through my old paper turkeys from last year. I moved grade levels, so can't do it this year. Making the turkeys is so much fun - I hope your narratives come out wonderfully. Let me know if you need anything else!
