The Code Puzzle is a "learn to code" activity I've developed over the last few months. It uses physical cards you can print out and a free app I've developed that lets you photograph the cards.
You arrange the cards (and write in parameters), creating a program. When you photograph the cards using the app it will read the cards and execute the program, drawing a picture.
We've found that it's an effective group activity because instead of having students hunched over a computer while they learn to code, they are moving around more and organizing their cards on a table. This allows them to collaborate more easily.
It's also a great way to learn about math and computational thinking. You need to be able to think like the computer as you build the program and think about the necessary distances and angles needed to create the drawing they want.
