This complete cross-curricular unit has students learn about companies, research stocks, create a portfolio, track their performance, submit their project and write a test. Students will learn about real life financial literacy, trade-offs, decision making, strategies, and apply mathematical concepts.

The unit runs about 10-14 weeks long, with an intensive set of learning instruction days near the front, and then recurring portfolio management days (suggested every week) for 10 weeks.

A complete PowerPoint (and Google Slides) presentation is provided to help you deliver amazing lessons, and guide the students through the steps to tackle an in depth project that they will be bragging to their parents about over the dinner table. I have been using and developing this unit in my classroom for years (grade 6-8), and the students absolutely love it.

This detailed unit plan covers 16 lessons, but can be shortened or extended easily by adjusting the number of periods you track in your project. This unit will have the students engaging in real-world numeracy, and help them develop financial literacy and apply mathematical concepts in a practical setting.

The entire project is set up like a game and the student will get excited to check their portfolios every week to compare their performance against their peers.

This package includes:

  • Full presentation in PowerPoint (fully editable) and Google Slides (129 Slides)
  • Complete test adapted for Grades 5-6, and Grades 7-12
