Are you looking for an alternative to worksheets and bookwork to teach?

Do you have kids who get bogged down in the calculation or in drawing histograms and don't get around to thinking hard about the bigger concepts?

This is a lesson plan for a 60 minute group activity that is designed to get kids thinking about histograms, the median, and the range of data. Present your students with 4 challenges and guide them to success with specific remediation/guiding questions and extension tasks.

There is NO CALCULATION involved and kids absolutely LOVE this activity. They don't get bogged down in the calculation or drawing histograms, they just have to think about the big concepts.

Included in this product:

  • Lesson Information - 17 pages of information including pre-requisite knowledge needed, teacher preparations, priming activities/questions, copy of the histogram bars to give to student groups, and teacher guidance questions and extension tasks.
  • Monitoring Tool - A 3-page summary of the questions that the teacher uses during the group challenges to guide the students who struggle and enhance student understanding when they are successful.
  • Google Slides presentation - 6 slides to use to present the challenges to students.
