Description

A comprehension and creation task designed to accompany a reading of Shaun Tan's picture book The Lost Thing or a viewing of the animated short film version, narrated by Tim Minchin.

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EMzzJhH1Ec

Students complete the comprehension questions, complete an analysis of the visual techniques used on the front cover, then design their own "lost thing," complete with special powers and an interesting story of how it came to belong to the place of the other lost things.

A great way to begin or end a unit of work on visual texts, picture books or storytelling. Well suited to a Year 6, 7 or 8 English class, takes 2 - 3 lessons to complete, depending on how long you wish for your students to spend analysing the text, creating their own lost thing and writing a short back story for it. Students love the opportunity to design and share their own "Lost Thing" creations.

What's Included?

  • 6 Page comprehension, analysis and creative writing activity sheet - no prep, just print and go!
