Description

Your students are about to find out how much of The Outsiders they actually retained - and the answer is going to be humbling for at least one team.

This is a fully interactive classroom trivia game built for the smartboard. It runs entirely in a single HTML file: download it once, open it in a browser, and you're playing. No accounts. No subscriptions. No begging IT for help the morning of. Just plug in, project, and watch your class get increasingly competitive over whether or not they remember what Dally handed Johnny before they fled.

What's inside:

Four escalating rounds of 10 questions each, starting with plot and characters and ending with the kind of detail that will make your overconfident students genuinely upset.

  • Round 1 - Easy: Setting, characters, basic plot. A warm-up.
  • Round 2 - Getting Warmer: Themes, symbols, key scenes. This is where the real readers start separating from the people who read the chapter summaries.
  • Round 3 - The Deep Cuts: Literary analysis and specific detail. Quotes, narration, meaning. The good stuff.
  • Round 4 - No Mercy: Ruthless, granular detail that almost nobody remembers. You've been warned.

Game features:

  • Supports 2 to 5 teams with fully customizable names
  • Live scoreboard visible at all times, with + and - score buttons per team
  • Leader chip highlights the team in front so the competition stays real
  • Every answer reveal includes a teacher note with guidance on partial credit and common wrong answers
  • Keyboard shortcuts for one-handed operation (Space to reveal, arrow to advance)
  • Final leaderboard with book-themed score tiers: Stay Gold, Sodapop Approved, Johnny's Notebook, and - for the teams who really underdelivered - Greasy Couch at the Curtis House
  • Works completely offline after the initial font load
  • No installation, no app, no setup beyond opening a file

Who is this for:

Middle and high school ELA teachers wrapping up The Outsiders and looking for a review activity that doesn't feel like a worksheet. Great for end-of-novel review, test prep, reading celebrations, or just a Friday where you want the room actually engaged.

How to use it:

Download the HTML file. Open it in Chrome (or any modern browser). Project it. Enter your team names, hit Start, and read the questions aloud. That's it. The game handles everything else.
