"A great way to review my unit on the periodic table. The questions were challenging enough to make them think, but definitely things they knew how to answer."

Description

This is a set of 24 task cards covering multiple representations of the arrangement of elements, characteristics of elements, and properties of elements of the periodic table. The questions are differentiated for a wide range of learners.

I wrote the questions in such a way that students will NOT need a separate periodic table to answer these questions. All they should need is the question graphics and their knowledge of how the periodic table works.

With what standard does this resource align?

This resource will aid students in moving towards mastery of Next Generation Science Standards NGSS MS-PS1-1 and NGSS HS-PS1-1.

How do I use task cards?

• Test prep

Task card stations are great for EOCT review; my kids would much rather rotate around the room and get some movement in while they review than just sit and answer worksheet questions or listen to a review lecture.

I put students in break out rooms and assigned students a page to complete and be prepared to share when we came back as a class. They did really well and enjoyed the activity!

I set this up as a gallery walk for pairs (pre-COVID) last spring. The task cards are self explanatory and are a solid review of basics about the PTOE. The gallery walk was part of a test review activity series that we did. I also used these with some of my special needs kids to help reteach concepts before a test retake. Task cards are just a handy thing to have around to make differentiation easier--great addition to the toolbox! This year I will set up a social distance gallery walk for students to work individually.
