Description

Determining the theme of a story is one of the most challenging skills students encounter in reading fiction. But, according to the standards, students as young as 4th grade must be able to distinguish the theme from the main idea. They must understand what lesson the author is trying to teach. Use this fun theme introduction slideshow & practice to teach your students what theme is and how to generate their own theme statements.  

What is included in this product

  1. 9 Slide theme slideshow, including: theme vs. topic explanation; steps to generate themes; example topics/theme statements; Disney short modeling & guided practice; short texts partner practice
  2. Theme vs. Topic anchor chart 
  3. Independent theme practice Google Form 
  4. Answer Key
