Description

This short script on THEME (1 and a half pages long) involves students in reading and reviewing information about understanding the concept of a theme and defining and identifying themes in novels, poems, plays, stories, movies, songs, or T.V. shows. The script incorporates humor and contemporary language and references. It’s part of a collection in my book CURRICULUM-BASED READERS THEATRE SCRIPTS: LANGUAGE ARTS.

This script is written for solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. Reading and rehearsing the script provides an introduction and examples of different themes while also increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.

The text of the script appears in a 2-column format. (A look at the Preview copy will give you a strong idea of the total script and the information it contains.) A fluent and expressive read-through/performance takes about 4 minutes.

Every single CBRTT script from Rosalind Flynn is AMAZING! I have been using them for years and the students and I never get tired of them! There is always such room for creativity and fun and it truly helps bring a lesson to life while helping with understanding. I am now an arts integration specialist and push in to regular classrooms and utilize these scrips as a way to review or reteach material students are struggling with. While working on the ELA content we also work on our "actor's tools" at the same time. Thank you!!

The students who collaborated on this script were, I believe, 5th graders and their teacher wanted it to coordinate with their Language arts curriculum objectives. So, I do understand that it would not work as well in a Theatre class. Your comment caused me to make the product description more specific, so I appreciate that. If you want to access some free scripts for use in Theatre class, please visit my web site which is my first and last name dot com.
