Do you want to increase mathematics discourse and critical thinking in your classroom? 3 Act Tasks are the way to go. Graham Fletcher has gathered the videos for us, I have just put the lessons together. In a 3 Act Task students are given a real-world video where they need to solve a problem. In Act 1 they jot down what they see and wonder. In Act 2 they are given more information to help narrow down what they think the video is asking. In this Act they also estimate their answer for reasonableness. Before the solution is shown in Act 3, students work together to solve the problem. All of the videos are standardized based.
