"This was my first experience using single point rubrics, as using regular rubrics with students to guide learning and growth was feeling to cumbersome. This was a game-changer for me and made it easier for students to focus on next-steps in order to improve and grow. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!"

Description

All three of my Single Point Rubrics for one price!

Standards based grading has never been easier when it comes to writing. Using the success criteria on this rubric, students check off all of the elements they have included in their opinion writing and submit their writing for a score. Met all the success criteria? The student earns a "Meeting Standard" score. Teachers leave feedback in the left and right columns to help students understand strengths and challenges near the criteria as they evaluate. When the rubric/checklist is returned, the student has feedback and a place for reflection. These rubrics can be edited to fit your specific needs.

Example: A 4th grader has a well crafted opinion essay which is written with style. The teacher comments in the strengths section about the writer's clear opinion, relevant reasons, and solid transitions. All amazing! In the left column, the teacher notes that the writer is missing evidence from sources to back up her reasons and also that the spelling and grammar errors made the piece a bit confusing. She jots a couple of points to consider and gives the student an overall score of "Standard Nearly Met." In my district, that is a score of 2. The student has a clear path for the next opinion piece she writes and knows exactly how to earn a 3 - "Standard Met" the next time!

Try out this more holistic version of a rubric that frees teachers up from having to decide on a score for every single characteristic and then narrow that back down to a single score. I use the following language in my class:

4 - I feel confident I can explain it to others and even extend my learning. (aka "Wow" or "I went beyond the teaching in class.")

3 - I can do it on my own and can show my thinking. (aka "Got It")

2 - I can do it with help, but I still need more examples and practice. (aka "Kinda")

1 - I am beginning to understand, but I am still confused and have questions. (aka "Not Yet")

0 - No evidence (aka nothing turned in)
