Description
The TACT is a brief timed test of basic Arithmetic skills of 24 items, set out sequentially on a single A4 sheet. It is completed in a single session with a time limit of five minutes, and is tackled without use of calculator or other electronic instruments.
It can be used as a group test or individually.
It covers an array of common arithmetic processes that are expected to be mastered in primary grades 3 to 8, as per current Australian curriculum guidelines.
Scoring is based on presence/ absence of correct answer for the 24 items within the five-minute limit.
TACT can be used firstly as a quick screening test of overall computational proficiency in common arithmetic problems involving selected algorithms of addition, subtraction, multiplication by one or two digits, division by one or two digits, simple percentages, converting numbers to decimals, and fractions, with one to three items in each algorithm category. Proficiency is based on total score correct.
