Description
I needed a quick way to assess student fact proficiency so I created these fact strips. Each "strip" has 16 questions and I allow my third graders 1 minute to complete. This means they are solving the problems in 3.75 seconds or less. Feel free to add or subtract time allowed based on what's best for your class! The strip format allows for super fast checking for instant feedback.

Self-Paced and Motivating Resource

This resource is self-paced, low prep and highly motivating. Tests are stored in a file system, students grab the test they are working on, along with a kitchen timer (stored in a box next to the tests) and put it in their timed test folder daily as one of their must do tasks during math groups for seat work. When they pass the level move on to the next, keeping track of where they are at on a chart glued inside of their math seat work file folder. After they complete the timed test, they turn in their folder and return the timer.
They are motivated by their success, eager to move to the next level. Enjoy the independence of this activity, competing against themselves to outdo their score from the previous attempt. This activity also gives me an informal snapshot of where targeted instruction is needed in that if they are struggling with a particular level (for instance their 4's) I can give them some 4's strategies and extra instruction.
Thank you for crafting this valuable resource.
Thanks so much for making a resource that was easily implemented into the classroom.
My students were engaged with this resource and enjoyed the activity.
