Are you struggling with challenging behaviors with a student or child? Many students that exhibit challenging behaviors do so because they either don’t understand what behavior is expected or are not intrinsically reinforced to use this behavior. A positive support plan using a token economy system addresses both of these common issues. The teacher or therapist picks 1-3 behaviors they would like to target, places picture(s) of these on board, shows child the reward choice menu to select what they would like to earn, and then rewards child with a thumbs up token each time the target behavior is observed. When the child has earned all the tokens, they receive the reinforcer they have selected. Three, five, and ten token boards are included so that the level of reinforcement can be gradually decreased as the child gains proficiency. Pictures of target behaviors include those to increase pro-social behaviors (comment to peer, share, show something to peer, etc.), decrease negative behaviors (feet on floor, walking feet, hands to self, etc.), and to increase independence in the classroom (stay with group, hang up backpack, wash hands, etc.). This visual reward system helps you target up to 3 behaviors at a time and helps the child understand what behavior is expected, when they will receive a reinforcement, and what reinforcer they will receive for engaging in the expected behavior. Token economy systems are one of the easiest behavioral tools a teacher or therapist can use and this set has everything you need to get started.
