Engineering Challenge:

What is the tallest free-standing pyramid you can build using toothpicks and clay within the 30 minute time limit?

Materials: (per group)

One large package of toothpicks
One package of non-drying clay
(you can find it on-line or at the dollar store)
Timer
Flat surface

This packet contains all the information you need to make this a great engineering activity in your classroom! Lab sheets, student and teacher instructions, and challenge signs are all included! Using simple and cheap materials, you can engage your students in the engineering process!

My summer school students loved this activity. We used this activity in concert with a lesson about the Egyptian pyramids. They had a great time building the tallest toothpick and marshmallow pyramids.
