Description
This product doubles as full digital lessons for the Concept Development portion of Engage New York Eureka program to be displayed on your Smart Board or shared on your screen and also contains interactive Google slides for independent or small group practice after the whole group lessons to be assigned or shared virtually to put the lesson into practice.
No prep-work needed for 4 days of first grade math lessons with nearly 300 slides bundled at a big discounted rate! These lessons support CCSS Operations and Algebraic Thinking, particularly CCSS>1.OA.3, CCSS.1.OA.5, and CCSS.1OA.7. It is designed for early first grade (particularly Topic E Lessons 17-20 of Module 1 Eureka) but can also be used for second half of kindergarten or to supplement or enhance other curriculums as it focuses on the same standards.
In Topic E, students will gain an understanding of the equal sign and the commutative property of addition (1.OA.3 and 1.OA.7) and apply it to everyday situations as proposed in the lessons. Students will use pictorial representations with a combination of their 5 group dot cards to represent equal amounts. Following the deep comprehension of the equal sign, students will come to understand the commutative property of addition (for example: 3 + 2 = 2 + 3). The Math Detectives work to prove the mysterious question: Does it matter which number you add first? They go on to prove that either way you will get the same sum. The Math Detectives then dive deeper in Lesson 20 to model a quicker, yet accurate way of finding the sum by starting with the larger addend and then counting on.
In these lessons the Math Detectives explore a birthday party for twins (who like to have equal amounts of everything), a baseball game, the farm, and a rainy day. Slides are designed to appear as though you are looking through binoculars, using a camera, looking through a magnifying glass, using a flashlight, and taking notes in a notepad like a real detective hunting for number clues! The scenes in this product presents a storyline similar to word problems and promotes problem-solving skills and is designed to promote student discourse and discussion to learn to explain their mathematical thinking.
Use these lessons as whole group shared on your Interactive whiteboard, shared on your screen on Google Meet or Zoom for distant learning, or as a small group lesson in present mode. Each slide is annotated with dialogue in speech bubbles to guide your lesson, but feel free to make it your own! Each slide is designed to serve as a foundation for which math discourse in the classroom can build and grow.
After the lessons are 20 independent slides for students. You can assign these slides in Google Classroom or on Seesaw (or any other program that supports Google slide products). Simply hold "ctrl" to select the slides you want to assign, go to file and make a copy. From there you can assign as you normally would on your preferred digital platform. These slides are interactive when in edit mode only! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or you can email me (see my TOU below for contact information).
