Description
Included are three bundled activities for students to learn about topic sentences:
-The first is studying the topic sentence by coding key words and stating our prediction about what the article will talk about. Getting into the habit of recognizing a topic sentence and predicting is key to active reading and comprehending text.
-The second is cutting out topic sentences and matching them with a paragraph. This helps with critical thinking about whether the content matches a topic/main idea.
-The third is a partners go fish game where a list of details is matched to a possible topic sentence. This game solidifies the flexible mental organization of concepts into categories that are important when planning writing.
