Geometric Transformations Digital Task Cards Google Slides Geometry Test Practice Review Rigid Motion Transformations

Targets

•Map a preimage onto its image by translations, reflections, rotations and dilations

•Identify which transformations are rigid motions.

•Use function notation to describe a transformation.

•Identify unknown values of unknown corresponding parts.

•Describe rotations or reflections that carry a figure onto itself.

•Identify reflective and rotational symmetry.

Task Cards:

#1-6: Given a transformed image and its preimage, describe in words and in function notation the following: reflections, rotations, translation and dilations.

#7: Identify rigid motion and non-rigid motion transformations.

#8: Identify and describe reflective and rotational symmetry

#9: Find unknown values for images mapped by a rigid motion transformation.

#10-17: Use the drag and drop feature to perform the following: reflection, rotation, translation, dilation, and a sequence of rigid motion transformations.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Represent transformations in the plane using, e.g., transparencies and geometry software; describe transformations as functions that take points in the plane as inputs and give other points as outputs. Compare transformations that preserve distance and angle to those that do not (e.g., translation versus horizontal stretch).
Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself.
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
